5 Expert Tips: Your Guide to Navigation Fundamentals (6 min read)
Will Oxley has seen electronics fail at the worst possible moments, which is why he’s obsessed with old school navigation skills. He argues that fancy software is great, but it’s useless if you can’t work depths, transits, or tides when the screens go dark. His tips boil down to mastering the basics, building layers of backups, spreading knowledge across the crew, setting smart risk levels, and trusting your eyes as much as your instruments. It’s a reminder that even in big-boat racing, instincts still beat gadgets when it counts.

Three races, three different winners and absolutely no clarity on who’s taking the 16ft crown. St George’s Bosker Build leads the scoreboard without winning a single heat, proving consistency beats chaos when the fleet is this stacked. Red Pumps, Imagine Signage, IMEI and Buckingham are all within striking distance as the series heads to St George for the finale. In the 13s, it’s a two-boat showdown with Harken and Buckingham Marine breaking away early. Expect a spicy finish when the drop kicks in and the pressure ramps up.
A New Chapter in Antigua (5 min read)
Antigua is leveling up its racing scene with the launch of the Antigua Racing Cup, a sailors-first regatta debuting in April 2026 as the centerpiece of the island’s new Regatta Month. Think tight courses, steady trades and pro race management, all based out of Nelson’s Dockyard for maximum atmosphere. The event aims to complement Antigua Sailing Week while carving out its own identity with dual scoring, one-design fleets and big-boat challenges. It’s pure competition on the water and classic Antiguan energy ashore.
SheSails International Conference 2025: Accelerating Action through Mentoring (5 min read)
The SheSails International Conference kicked off with a global lineup of sailors and leaders showing how mentorship can change careers and reshape the sport. From Jazz Taylor’s solo UK circumnavigation to Arisa Moriya’s offshore journey and Victoria Low’s work with The Magenta Project, the night was packed with stories about guidance opening real pathways. Australian Sailing’s leadership set the tone by doubling down on gender equity, and the vibe was all about momentum and opportunity. If mentoring is the engine, women’s sailing is definitely picking up speed.
Engine Coolant Leak: How To Make a Temporary Fix (6 min read)
A Volvo Penta 2040 kept dumping green coolant into the bilge, and everyone blamed the usual suspects like salt blockages, bad thermostats, or a faulty cap. Turns out the real culprit was sneakier: a tiny leak inside the calorifier coil that let pressurised freshwater push into the engine circuit even when the motor was off. A simple hose-bridge test confirmed it fast. The fix kept the engine happy, but the crew had to accept cold showers until the warranty kicks in.
Introducing the 29er Awards 2025 (4 min read)
The 29er Class just launched the 2025 Awards and it’s way more than a medal parade. Yes, there are performance categories celebrating the fastest crews, top coaches and standout sailors across every continent, but the fun stuff steals the show. Think most stylish sailor, best team spirit, and even a Kidzink-selected Creative Sailor of the Year. Nominations and early voting are already open, with finalists named in December. It’s the perfect mix of speed, personality and pure 29er chaos.
Grafham Water’s monthly sprint series delivered pure chaos in 10–15 minute bursts as Will, Brian and Alistair went head to head in their RS600s. Five short races meant every start, tack and wobble counted, and both Will and Brian took unexpected swims and tactical misfires along the way. The duels were tight all day with lead changes, mark-rounding mayhem and plenty of wire-to-wire drag races. In the end Brian edged it three wins to two, but the battles were spicy and the winter training rivalry is officially on.
